Carnival
March 15, 2006
Carnival is the same thing as Mardi Gras (or Fat Tuesday).
Carnival is a very special holiday in Brazil. It is celebrated in many different ways all over the country. For example: in São Paulo an Rio de Janeiro there are big parades that are mostly appreciated on television, but that can also be seen live. In those parades, “carnival schools” compete between themselves to see who does the best show among them, while in Salvador and many other nothern Brazilian cities, people just go out and dance on the streets some pretty “bouncing music” let’s say.
Carnival precedes the Ash Wednesday and its last day (Fat Tuesday is 40 days before Holy Friday.
This year, on Carnival Holiday, I travelled with three friends to my coutryside house. We spent most of the time on the pool, or playing ping pong, soccer, etc. We also ate a lot, had some good laughs and even did a little “tour” in the jungle! It was really fun! I hope next year it will be too!
